EVENTS AND SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the backbone of our school because it lays the foundation for our students by creating an enthusiasm for scholarship, to develop character, to promote leadership, to encourage citizenship, and to stimulate a desire to serve.

Membership in the NJHS is both a responsibility, and an honor bestowed by the faculty.
The basic principles are scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and service. Students must contribute to the school and society in all areas.

Some of our activities are: the Knowledge Bowl, tutoring in various classrooms, making morning announcements on the PA system, reading to students in three buildings, helping with Student Council projects, helping promote reading by selling books during conferences, and playing “ Santa” by answering letters from children at Richardson Elementary School.

NJHS has monthly meetings to discuss projects and to make sure we are keeping their promise to uphold all of the stated principles stated above.

Calendar:
Meetings- March 20, April 17, and May 15.

Over the next three months, the NJHS will continue to sponsor the Knowledge Bowl. Every week CELT classes will compete against each other.

Eighth Grade Field Trips and Classroom Activities

Ms. Reitz:
Ms. Reitz’s 8th grade classes visited the Iosco County Medical Care Facility. The purpose of this visit was to have students learn about U.S. history from someone who may have experienced it. Another reason for this field trip was to have students interact with older adults. Students also got to see what a nursing home was like.
Mr. Reitz’s class also had a number of projects throughout the year. They had an Oscoda History project and a Green Games project. The purpose of the Oscoda History project was to find out about the local community. The Green Games project was to see how the Olympics met environmental Standards. Jam Sessions

What are Jam Sessions? Jam Sessions are assemblies put on by the school improvement team to keep our school a safe and positive environment for the students of RMS. The host of the Jam Sessions is our principal, Mr. Scott. Mr. Scott tries to have Jam Sessions every other Monday. Some of the topics he has talked to us about include: an introduction of him, success, being positive in the morning, appreciation, a movie about Oscoda Elementary, whistle blowing, and one just for the eighth graders about going to the High School next year. Below are pictures from a previous Jam Session.
