For the children, by the children

Captain Algorithm
Captain Algorithm came to visit us one week in Math Enrichment class.  We did not enter math class, instead we used our imaginations and went onto a pirate ship! We learned about math algorithms with Mrs. Root.  She told us that an algorithm is “a step by step process”. You must follow the directions in the correct order to get your answer.  Captain Algorithm was fun! We hope she can come again!

Snowmen Sales
The first and second graders made snowmen in their Creative Projects classes with Ms. Samotis in December.  She cut them out of wood then we painted and decorated them to sell to the community.  Mr. Lovelace helped us too by attaching branches for the arms. We put them up for sale downtown in Mark’s Park so everyone could see them.  We made $625.00!  We are going to use the money to buy worms, seeds, plants, and supplies for our Children’s Garden.

Book Buddies
This year we are trying something new in Library.  It is called Book Buddies.  First we had to earn our check out card and the privilege of going to Book Buddies.  We learned how to “operate to cooperate” by working together.  We learned how to check out the books, how to take care of them, and how to put the books back on the shelves.  Then we had to teach the first graders how to do it.  That’s why we are called buddies. Now we are going to teach the kindergarteners and be their buddies too.  We think it is fun!

    Wyatt

Oh Wyatt, Oh Wyatt, we had fun with you.
Why did you go on the ice?
That was a bad idea!

We loved to play with you.
We liked the way you looked and the way you ran.
You ran fast, you are almost the fastest in our class.

You were a good friend and that is good.
Oh, I almost forgot, you are a nice kid.
                                             Christopher Filipiak

I wrote this poem a few months after Wyatt died because I was his friend and I missed him very much.  He died one year ago and I still miss him very much.
