Goal 6:  To Provide Various Resources Needed to Implement the Technology Plan

INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN

A Local Area Network and Wide Area Network with high-speed access to the Internet has been established. All District classrooms have active Internet drops in each classroom. The infrastructure has been upgraded by:

Maintaining and upgrading the LANs and WAN.

Continuing to connect all departments and buildings via WAN to facilitate sharing of resources and data.

Continuing to maintain space in each building to provide for computer labs and/or classroom computers. This includes electrical upgrades and equipment accessories, such as tables and chairs.

Continuing to upgrade computers as technology advances.

Continuing to implement physical security and data security to protect technologies and information in all buildings. Prioritize security threats and evaluate measures to overcome security problems.

Continuing to maintain network, Intranet and Internet security throughout the district.

Continuing to enhance curriculum through the use of Technology integration with classroom/lab computers.

Implementing enhanced curriculum choices students through technology. This will allow students opportunities currently not available.

Implement access to higher education offerings for high school students where dual enrollment on campus is not an option.

Implementing and maintaining professional development opportunities for all staff through technology.

Making all classrooms/labs handicapped accessible.

Continuing technology, as part of the District’s strategic plan.

Assessment of all hardware, software and services:

All computers, servers, TTI laptops, and peripherals are compiled on a database.  This inventory is maintained by the district Technology Coordinator.

Cedar Lake Elementary and Richardson Elementary Middle School have Macintosh computers.  Most of the teachers in those buildings opted for the Apple laptops as part of the TTI.  These buildings are wired for Macintosh.  Richardson Elementary Middle School operate off of the Mac Server.  Cedar Lake was connected to the server in 2004-2005.  Richardson Elementary Middle School has four computer labs and Cedar Lake has one computer lab.  Cedar Lake classrooms have pods of four computers while Richardson Elementary Middle School has some classrooms with pods of student computers.  All staff have desktops that are part of our Novell server.  Most TTI laptops are the Mac laptops.  However, some teachers opted for multimedia and other peripherals as part of the initiative.  Richardson Elementary Middle School also has one wireless lab and the sixth grade Freedom to Learn laptops.

Glennie Elementary operates off of a Novell server.  They have one lab and computers in the classrooms.  Teachers at this building opted for the Dell laptops.

The High School works off of a Novell server.  Teachers took part in the TTI with Dell laptops.  We have two labs in the Business Department, a CAD lab for Industrial Arts and a lab in the media center.  Every teacher has a computer in their classroom for attendance and grades.  Part of the staff have one to four computers for student use in their classrooms.  Two wireless labs have been added to the High School.

All of our offices in Oscoda Area Schools have computers and network access for student management.  We use CIMS through Bay Arenac.

All software for the district is coordinated through the Technology Coordinator and the Curriculum Office.  Software is purchased through Central Office with approval of building principals and the Curriculum Director.
