INTRODUCTION

 

Oscoda Area School District covers approximately 390 square miles, 175 of which are owned or controlled by the state or federal government.  The District is located in scenic northeast Michigan situated on the AuSable River with Lake Huron as its eastern border.  The area provides a variety of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.  Thousands of tourists take advantage of our year around recreational facilities.

 

The District is currently serving 1,708 students preschool-twelfth grades in three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.  All of the Oscoda Area Schools are NCA accredited and endorsed in the Transitions Process.   The schools are:

Due to the size and distribution of the school population, the District operates 24 school buses which travel in excess of 700,000 miles each year.  Approximately 59% of the student population are eligible for free or reduced lunch. 

 

In addition to being the major provider of public education, Oscoda Area Schools is the hub of the community for many activities.  The District is a major local business with annual revenues of approximately $14,263,794.  With a payroll of 11 million dollars per year employing 184 residents, the District ranks as one of the largest employers in the county.  In the fall of 2001, the District was able to pass a $14,155,000 bond a portion of which was earmarked for technology.

The intent of the 2005-2008 Technology Plan is to provide the Oscoda Area Schools with a blueprint to follow as technology continues to expand and is integrated into the school environment for teaching, learning and administration.
