Two Oscoda High School students traveled to Midland High School on Saturday, March 16 to participate in MSBOA (Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association) State Solo and Ensemble Festival after qualifying for this event in February.
Joshua McDonald (11) and Stephanie Oakes (12) combined to perform a baritone saxophone/contralto clarinet duet “Ronda for Two Tubas” by Richard E. Jensen
Stephanie performed two solos, “Sonatina” by Muzio Clementi on bass clarinet and “Earth Song” by Tyler Acari on contralto clarinet.
Josh performed a baritone saxophone solo, “Undercurrent” by Newell H. Long.
In addition to performing their solos, Stephanie and Josh were required to perform Major, minor and chromatic scales and they were required to sight-read.
Each of these events earned a Division I or a “Superior” rating at this event.
