We wanted to take a moment to share with our community an update to our athletic spectator requirements. Moving forward, all spectators will be required to turn in the attached form before entering any home athletic event. We have provided a copy of this form so you can complete it prior to your arrival. Alternatively, forms will be available to be complete at the entrance to each athletic event. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter.

Laptop Insurance Enrollment Window Closes October 30, 2020. https://youtu.be/CRg2CPpp4Ac This year we have already had 8 broken/shattered screens, 4 spills and various other damages to the laptops. The cost for screen replacement for one of the HP Touchscreen laptops is approximately $300. The cost of the insurance is $20. The insurance covers theft, loss and accidental damages done to the devices. The device must be insured before the accident or a claim can be filed. OAS would like to thank John Henry Excavating for the donation of these enormous utility poles. Our District is further blessed by the skill and dedication of our outstanding team of maintenance and custodial (Mike Carefelly, Danny Marshall, Bobby Otremba and Jason Livvix) for installing these posts on our soccer field to improve and enhance our facilities for our kids. Happy Friday! We have made it through the first month of school! Welcome to October. We are very grateful to have such resilient, hard-working, and positive students. They have amazed us with how flawlessly they have adapted to change. Here is a reminder: *Today is a virtual Friday for ALL of our students. This is for our online learners, our blended students, and our 4 day a week in person students. All students are required to complete an assignment on Fridays. This assignment looks different from teacher to teacher, but this is something that must be done to show participation for our students. All students must engage in their classes on Fridays. We are excited to announce that the Oscoda Area Schools in Collaboration with Alcona Health Center has received a grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to establish a School Based Health Center Program within the Richardson Elementary School. Services provided through the Child and Adolescent Health Center Program are designed specifically for children and adolescents ages 5 through 21 years and are aimed at achieving the best possible physical, intellectual, and emotional health status. This grant will provide support for a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner and Behavioral Health Therapist full time during the school year. Clinical services shall include, at a minimum: primary care including health care maintenance, immunization assessment and administration, care of acute and chronic illness, mental health services, health education, risk reduction counseling, and referral for other services not available at the health center. Mari Anderson, FNP-C and Catherine Nickell-Simpson, Limited Licensed Master Social Worker (LLMSW) will be providing the services for the new School Based Health Center. We would like to thank the Robert J. Parks Library in Oscoda and the Curtis Township Library in Glennie for allowing our students to use their FREE WIFI 24 hours a day 7 days a week. MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL Starts on 9/1/2020. New 7th graders interested in playing girls basketball will need a Physical on file before practicing. 8th grade girls who had a physical last year will need to complete a Health Questionnaire form. 8th grade girls who do not have a physical on file from the 2019-2020 school year will need to get a physical. Physical and Health Questionnaire forms are available in the High School Office. Practices will be held on the Football-Soccer Practice Fields.

Good afternoon, Bus routes will be adjusted throughout the school year in order to get as close to 50% capacity as possible. Bus drivers will be calling parents to confirm stop times and locations before Tuesday morning. We have posted a start of the year route summary to our Facebook page and website and have also included that document in this email. Any changes that occur after school starts will be communicated with you via email, Facebook, and www.oscodaschools.org as soon as possible. Reminder that if you see YELLOW flashing overhead lights on the school bus, you must be prepared to stop; be on the lookout for children coming from any direction as they are often unpredictable. If the RED flashing overhead lights are on it is illegal to pass no matter what direction you are going. Please keep our students safe and follow the law. The first day of school is coming fast! We are one week away from welcoming students back to school for the 2020/2021 school year! The staff are in the building working to get ready to welcome the students on September 1st. Chester received a special package of masks and he wanted to try them out. Chester is ready to go and has quickly learned how to wear a mask correctly. He can't wait to see everyone soon! See you in a week!

Oscoda High School and Middle School is hosting in-person tours for incoming 7th grade students! We look forward to showing our students who will be new to the building around. To maintain a safe environment we are asking families to contact the High School Administrators to schedule appointments. Groups will be limited to 10 or fewer individuals.
